Suzie and Sue get to know each other
Part Two of a great new series of guest articles from Sue Carter, image consultant extraordinaire!
Series Title – How Image Consultants CAN work together!
I’ve been on many training courses and met some lovely ladies. I’ve chatted over tea, coffee, lunch and cream scones (Kim’s courses are so civilised) and I have never met someone exactly me. Not once as I have talked business have I come across another consultant who shares the same take on her business, the same vision for her clients.
We have all been individuals making our own mark on the image business. Some of us are demon shoppers, others can whip a closet into shape in the twinkling of an eye or there is me; I see myself as a guide who helps my clients do it for themselves. We all have something to offer our clients and when we don’t have that particular skill we recommend someone who does – don’t we? Well, I do. I have a list of image consultants who are local to me and if I cannot help a would-be client or they want to shop (argh) I pass them on. I am not the slightest bit interested in dressing the mother of the bride but I have a friend who is and she sends me her older ladies who want their oomph back. What goes around comes around.
What does bother me is how many consultants don’t do this. They guard their clients and skills as if they are state secrets. This is unlikely to be you if you have been trained by Kim as she stresses how we should share and network; there are more than enough clients for all of us. And if it does ring a bell or makes you do a double-take, now is the time to decide to come out of your studio and get to know the rest of us. We are lovely and have the answer to the question that has been nagging you about that less-than-perfect client. Start with the people you trained with, e-mail them, give them a call, share. And you just might end up with a Suzie.
Suzie Rice and I met on several of Kim’s training courses and continued our friendship through the mentoring programme. We are very different consultants and our approach to our clients is poles apart but we do like to learn; about ourselves and how to work with our clients.
We decided to meet up near Cambridge, where Suzie lives, and share our expertise. We looked at each other’s colours, styles and wardrobes. Suzie took me shopping and I encouraged her to take a fresh look at her wardrobe and why she wore what she did.
That’s what these series of blogs are about. They are about image consultants supporting and learning from each other. They are about how we cannot see ourselves clearly, no matter what we know. In my case they are about taking my wardrobe from ordinary to extraordinary. They are about doing our chosen profession to the best of our unique ability and having fun and looking amazing along the way.
Sue can be found at twenty4carat and Suzie at suzierice. Come and say hello.
