You need some TCL this Christmas
At this most wonderful time of year, we often overdo it, don’t we? A little more turkey, a wee bit more Christmas pudding, just a splash more brandy sauce, another mince pie, a drop more wine, and lots more stress from having to cope with the in-laws, the out-laws, Uncle Tom Cobley and all, etc. – all invading your own private space at one time.
Personally, we just lock the door on Christmas Day. We pour the champagne (which always goes straight to my knees), put the turkey in the oven, scrub the vegetables, and settle down to watch Her Majesty at 3 o’clock. We’ll answer the telephone but not one foot steps over our threshold – Christmas Day is OUR day. Bah! Humbug!
Add in to this recipe several weeks of tramping round shopping malls dripping with oversized buggies, people getting in your way, buying presents that you know will be forgotten as soon as the wrapping paper is off, for ungrateful people that never bother to send you a thank-you card (where have our manners gone?), plus ridiculous amounts of time and money spent stocking the larder with so much unnecessary food just in case we’re going to be invaded tomorrow or, even worse, in case the shops forget to open the very next day…
