Well-Fitting Underwear
Well-fitting underwear is incredibly slimming
There’s several inches of snow on the ground and it’s freezing! So let’s warm ourselves up and think about those warm Summer days… Summer weather seems to make people smile and brings out the best in their natures – but it also brings out the flesh! Good grief and glory! Some of the sights you see fair make me want to lie down in a darkened room.
As one of our regular UK readers put it so beautifully…
“What is it about warm weather in this country that makes people think they can get away with wearing anything? The number of size 18/20 women who wear leggings that finish at the knees, strappy clinging T-shirts and rolls of fat makes me want to throw up.”
Amen to that!
Let’s face it; fat women in leggings and a strappy, clinging T-shirt during the summer is just as bad as fat women in leggings and an oversized sweatshirt in the winter. Not recommended.
So, how do you continue to look good in warm or hot weather if you are carrying excess weight?
Underwear
Please start out with some decent underwear! Get rid of those greying relics which clutter up your underwear drawer. You do NOT need twenty-odd pairs of pants (I am assuming here that you are a clean little person and wash your undies regularly). Well-fitting underwear can be extremely slimming and will even out those bumps and lumps which often pop out when you are least expecting them!
Bras
Get your bosom up and away from your waist! Sagging breasts make you look fat and old. You need to be measured every six months for a new bra – your body changes constantly – so, if you are still wearing some nastily discoloured bustenhalter from ages past, GET RID OF IT – now! Also, get rid of any which:
- are grey, several years old, baggy or have lost their shape (you need to be measured for a new bra every six months)
- ride up at the back – you need a smaller band size (that’s the measurement taken under your bust when fitting for a bra)
- dig into your shoulders (you need broader shoulder straps or a bigger band size)
- produce lumps of ‘misplaced cleavage’ under your arm-pit (you need a larger cup size)
- leave red marks when you take it off (you need to buy a bigger size)
There is now a full guide to correct measuring for a bra on our image, colour and style website, and this includes sizes for the UK, Europe, USA, Spain and France. If you are able to add the relevant information for your own country, please email me and I’ll add that, too.
If you want to wear strappy or strapless tops in the summer, choose either a strapless bra or one with clear, see-through straps. Most versions these days come with removable straps so you only need to buy one bra to cope with all situations.
Only those with the tiniest of bosoms should go bra-less and be aware that if you suddenly get caught in a breeze (or air-conditioning), your nipples will stick out like chapel hat-pegs!
- Can you cope with the attention? No?
- Will this embarrass the people you’re with? Yes?
- Then, wear a bra.
Pants / briefs / knickers
You have a choice here, much as Bridget Jones did when choosing her underwear for an important date:
- For a smooth look to your outer garments, choose BIG, smooth pants which hold your tummy and hips in, finish on or above your waistline, cover your cheeks entirely and do not create any visible lines. They should be in a neutral colour (white, cream, black) which does not show beneath your outer clothes.
- For those occasions when your underwear needs to be seen (for passionate encounters, etc.) choose tiny, lacy knickers with all the trimmings in vibrant colours. Just be aware of how these will impact on the lines of your outer garments.
You need to get rid of those which:
- are grey, several years old, baggy or have lost their shape (need I say more?)
- ride up when you move – you need more back coverage
- dig into your hips and cause extra lumps – you need more coverage at the sides
- cause your tummy to seep out over the top – try a higher waistline or pants with tummy control panels
Thong / G-string
- Removes VPL (visible panty line) beautifully
- Check your rear view in the mirror. The current trend of showing the back of the thong above low-slung jeans is extremely ugly and hardly ladylike. Out at lunch the other day, I overheard two young chaps commenting on the lady at the next table and how this was putting them off their food – they eventually moved tables to get away from the offensive sight of her jewelled thong. Doesn’t seem to impress the boys, does it?
Body / Teddy
- Helps slim the tummy area, and evens out lumps and bumps
- To keep the smoothest of lines, avoid excess lace especially around the bottom area
- Some come with tummy control panels (try these on before you buy – you may not be able to fasten the poppers if you have lots of extra flesh around the tops of your thighs)
- Underwired versions will help control a sagging bosom
I’ll say it again; well-fitting underwear is incredibly slimming. It will provide an excellent smooth base-line for what you’re wearing on top. It will camouflage your lumps and bumps, reduce embarrassing pop-outs of stray flesh, and make you feel confident and ladylike at all times!

A BRAND-NEW RANGE OF COLOUR COSMETICS
designed by image consultants for image consultants!
JANE FARDON COSMETICS
JFC concept and philosophy
- This make-up range has been designed by image consultants
specifically for image consultants. - The colours are based on the concepts of Cool vs. Warm
(hallelujah). - Product colours will not change with the latest fashions; the supply
of colours will be consistent.
What I was most concerned about with any new range is how often they will be changing the eyeshadows, lipsticks, etc. The reason I stayed with Moritz (now discontinued) is that the colours hardly ever changed so we know exactly what we are recommending to our clients, and they know they can come back and buy exactly what has worked previously for them.
Anyone can go to Boots, Debenhams, etc. to buy the latest fashion colours. We need to offer an alternative. I went with the Artistry range from Amway for a while and found that I was paying out a fortune to re-stock my kit with new colours every few months. Customers were extremely unhappy that they couldn’t get what they’d bought several years before, so I went back to Moritz.
As the Moritz range is being phased out, I have now moved on to Jane Fardon Cosmetics, and I love it! Find out more about Jane Fardon Cosmetics.
